Captains Report- written by Mel Jennings

Warwickshire ladies 55s turned the tables on Yorkshire by sealing a 3-2 win in our opening match of the summer.
We lost last year’s encounter in Leeds but both counties moved up to Division 1b and met on a blazing hot afternoon at Kenilworth. Mel Jennings put Warwickshire ahead with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Katherine Elgar. Julie Davies put up a terrific fight against Gayle Audley, making a valiant comeback in the second set, but was just edged out 6-1, 7-6.
Tracey Davies and Natalie Green found the going tough against Yorkshire’s Judith Abel and Helen Cowlrick, losing in two sets, so we were behind at the turnaround. However, captain Kate Perkins and Mel found a way to outwit Judith and Helen while Tracey and Natalie found their ‘champagne shots’ (Tracey’s words!) against Katherine and Gayle, winning 6-4, 6-2 to capture the overall victory.
Thanks to Kate for organising practices attended by players from several clubs, the fixtures and all the amazing food! The next match is at home against Lincolnshire with away clashes at Lancashire and Hertfordshire to follow.
