Sadly we lost 4-0 today at Kenilworth but had some cracking tennis and finally managed a set. Up in Division 1 we were really pleased with this particularly when we learned that one of their four had just been selected to play for England in Croatia (Barbara Bloor).
The weather was lovely and we didn’t dare complain about not being able to see the ball on throw up for the serve at one end!
I am extremely grateful to reserves Sue and Chris for stepping in as we added to our injury list with Wendy still struggling with her ankle and Margaret picking up a wrist injury.
Sue Ayres and Jackie Sadler got off to a slow start but had a much closer second set, losing 1-6,3-6 to Barbara Bloor and Linda Simpson. Meanwhile Chris Clewer and Caroline Rhodes took advantage of the time it took Linda Wood and Kate Burrows to settle on our outdoor courts and won the first set 6-4.Sadly they lost the second set 2-6 and then lost a hard fought Championship tie-break 7-10 , after having been 4-1 up.
In the reverse rubbers it wasn’t Sue and Jackie’s day as they lost 1-6, 0-6. Chris and Caroline held on to 3-3 in the first set but the really long vital seventh game went the wrong way and they went down 3-6, 1-6 , fading in the second set.
All in all a good day with really nice opposition.
