Reaching the 70s seems to have provided more injury problems for one match than we have had in several seasons previously!

We were unfortunately only able to field one pair for our match at Blackburn today against Lancashire but that pair did us proud. Congratulations to Sheila Ansell on her county debut. She paired up with club team-mate Paula Maxwell and they started in fine form, taking second couple, Lesley Greenwood and Linda Huntington, to a very close tie-break before losing 6-7, 1-6.

The Lancashire first couple, Roberta Holtby and Aileen Hext, were looking worried as they found themselves 2-3 down but moved up a gear to take the rubber 6-3, 6-1.

The Lancashire team were wonderfully hospitable and, as they are a team of five, even provided me with a couple of sets of much appreciated social tennis.
