Battle of the Aces: Warwickshire’s O70s Ladies Take on Yorkshire's Tennis Titans

Warwickshire Ladies O70s

We played at Chapel Allerton LTSC indoor on a carpet surface. Fortunately the temperature up north had dropped and when we played was around 21-23 degrees. Sadly we lost 4-0 but had some great tennis and the opposition were lovely.

Sue Ayres and Jackie Sadler served for the first set against first couple Audrey Reed and Sue Welch but couldn’t convert and lost the tie-break going down 6-7, 1-6. Meanwhile Chris Clewer and Caroline Rhodes got off to a slow start against a strong second couple, Rosie Connell and Pauline Knight losing 2-6,1-6.

In the reverse rubbers Chris and Caroline replicated the score and the pattern against the first couple, serving for the set and losing the tie-break, going down 6-7, 1-6. Once the tie-break had been won by the opposition they hit out freely. If only one of our pairs had taken the first set….. Sue and Jackie put up a good fight against Rosie and Pauline but lost 4-6, 2-6.
