Warwickshire’s Under 9 girls’ team delivered an outstanding performance at the National Finals, finishing the day in an impressive 2nd place. The team showed fantastic teamwork, determination, and resilience throughout.
The Warwickshire squad consisted of Olivia Larche, Harlow Kelly, Kimberley Candappa, Emiko De Silva, and Eva Chauhan.
They competed against some of the strongest counties in the country, including Yorkshire, Cheshire, West of Scotland, and Nottinghamshire.
Clean Sweep vs West of Scotland
Warwickshire opened the competition against West of Scotland and made a brilliant start.
In the singles, Harlow and Emiko delivered standout performances, winning their matches without dropping a game. Olivia and Kimmy also produced strong wins, giving Warwickshire a commanding 4–0 lead.
The momentum continued into the doubles, where Olivia & Harlow and Eva & Emiko played exceptional tennis, both pairs winning without dropping a game.
Final result: 6–0 to Warwickshire
Another Clean Sweep vs Nottinghamshire
The second match saw Warwickshire face Nottinghamshire, with another fast start.
Kimmy and Eva took early control, winning their matches without dropping a game to give a 2–0 lead. Olivia and Harlow followed up with solid 4–1 victories, making it 4–0 after singles.
In the doubles, Olivia & Harlow dominated with a 4–0 win, while Eva & Emiko secured a strong 4–2 victory.
Final result: 6–0 to Warwickshire
Tough Match vs Cheshire
In the third round, Warwickshire faced a very strong Cheshire team.
Olivia and Eva led the way, both winning 4–0 to give Warwickshire a 2–0 lead. Harlow added another win (4–1), while Kimmy narrowly lost a close match (4–2), leaving the score at 3–1 after singles.
Heading into the doubles, Warwickshire needed just one rubber to reach the final.Olivia & Harlow delivered with a 4–1 win, while Kimmy & Emiko fought hard but lost 4–2 in a close contest.
Final result: 4–2 to Warwickshire, securing a place in the final.
Final vs Yorkshire
In the final, Warwickshire faced a very strong Yorkshire side, whose top player is ranked in the UK’s top 5 for Under 9s.
All the girls gave their absolute best against a powerful and vocal Yorkshire team. After the singles, Warwickshire trailed 3–1, with Harlow securing an excellent 4–1 win.
Going into the doubles, Warwickshire needed both matches to force a shootout.Olivia & Kimmy faced a strong first pair and lost 4–1, while Harlow & Eva battled hard but were narrowly defeated 4–3 (7–5 in the tiebreak).
Final Result
Yorkshire were crowned overall winners, with Warwickshire finishing as runners-up — an incredible achievement.
Throughout the competition, the girls demonstrated outstanding teamwork, sportsmanship, and effort.
Well done to Olivia, Harlow, Kimmy, Emiko, and Eva — Warwickshire is incredibly proud of you all.
